California with the cousins

I decided to stay in California a little longer than the rest of the KALP group, and I met up with my cousin Ryan and his fiancée Haley who live in Pacifica.  We spent Saturday enjoying Napa Valley and a few of the wineries that dot the landscape. I decided that it was a good thing I did not live in the area, because wine tasting and visiting vineyards could become an addiction.

Late Sunday afternoon after Haley finished work, we loaded up the car and headed out for a couple of days in Yosemite. We drove into the Valley that evening under the cover of darkness, so when I awoke the next morning and walked out of the tent cabin I was taken aback by the beauty. I literally craned my head to where it was touching my back to see the mountains that rose all around the campsite.

We spent the day hiking and my lack of exercise over the past several months quickly began to show. I had to admit that I wasn’t as good as I once was and let the youngsters go on without me on the falls hike. I did enjoy the walk back down the trail with just my camera and some amazing light. That evening we dressed up...just because you stay in a tent cabin doesn’t mean you can’t clean up nice...and went to The Ahwahnee and had a fabulous dinner.

While waiting for the shuttle to take us to the Ahwahnee the sun began to set and the light that fell on half moon took on this amazing peach glow.  I knew there was a reason I didn’t lock my camera in the car, so I took it out and began clicking away until the shuttle arrived. For a moment I felt the pull of the mountain that drew Ansel Adams back to the valley time and again.

Our final day in Yosemite was relaxed as we all were tired from the day before. We arrived home late and it was back to work for both Ryan and Haley on Wednesday. I enjoyed my last day in San Francisco just walking around the city. I played tourist at Pier 39, Coit Tower, Chinatown, and even caught a free ride on an old cable car to Lombard Street.

As always the trip passed by quickly and soon it was time to say goodbye and head for home.
